PALAM KALYANA SUNDARAM - THIS RETIRED LIBRARIAN HAS GIVEN AWAY ALL HIS EARNINGS TO THE POOR OVER THE PAST 36 YEARS.

SEVENTY-FOUR YEAR OLD Palam Kalyana Sundaram is a retired librarian. A recipient of the Best Librarian in India Award, Cambridge honoured him as one of the 'noblest men of the world' and the United Nations recognised him as one of the most outstanding people of the 20th century. This man of no possession has, however, given away all his award money, salary and pension for charity. The amount he has given away over the past four decades for the cause of humanity sums up to Rs. 30 crore. Palam was born in Melakarivelamkulam, Tamil Nadu. After losing his father at a very young age, he recalls how his mother inspired him to serve the poor. He went on to do his Master's in Literature, and is also a gold medalist in Library Science, but his intent to do his bit for the society remained. He soon got a job as a Librarian in Tuticorin, and has since then, contributed all his salary, pension benefits and ancestral property for social welfare. According to Indiatimes, Palam did not get married because he wanted to spend his income to help the poor instead of his own family. A humble and down to earth man, Palam says money does not impress him at all. "One can get money in three possible ways. First, through earnings; secondly, through parents' earnings; and thirdly, through money donated by someone. But there's nothing more fulfilling than being able to donate money for charity out of your own earnings".
No words can describe the beauty of this man's kindness. A 76-year-old librarian taught the world that money does not get you popularity and recognition. It is your kindness that becomes famous for which people recognise you as their idol. Apart from working as a librarian, he has also worked as a waiter in a hotel in a deal of 2 meals a day and some salary. He was honoured as the 'Man of the Millennium' by an American association. He is a role model and also an adopted father to the legendary actor Rajnikanth.

ARCHAEOLOGISTS DISCOVER TOMBS IN EGYPT DATING BACK 2,000 YEARS.

Egypt's antiquities ministry said on 14th August, 2017 (Tuesday) that archaeologists have discovered three tombs dating more than 2,000 years, from the Ptolemaic Period. The discovery was made in the Nile valley province of Minya south of Cairo, in an area known as al-kamin al-Sahrawi. ANCIENT INDIA'S LINKS TO TODAY.

You may not have heard of Shu-ilishu but he is a man of great significance. He reaches out to us from almost 4,300 years ago, through a small Akkadian cylinder seal now housed at the Louvre Museum in Paris. On the seal, you will find an image of him talking to two men. The inscription describes Shu-ilishu as the interpreter of the Meluhhan language.
