CYCLING CULTURE IN CITIES.
Developing a cycling culture should be high on urban planning agenda if we are to tackle the high levels of air pollution in developing countries. Cities in Europe offer good examples here.
- Bike sharing: Allowing rent rides on standardised cycle to and from hubs around the cities, a signal that makes cyclists feel welcome.
- Dedicated bike lanes: Placing a barrier between bikes and the rest of the traffic.
- Congestion pricing: Charging drivers higher rates for using roads during peak hours.
- Charging more for street parking to make driving more expensive.
- Adding more bike racks.
