TAJ KEY PART OF OUR HERITAGE: YOGI.
The Taj Mahal is an integral part of our heritage and the recent controversy over its non-inclusion in a UP Government booklet was raked up by political interests, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said here on 04th October, 2017 (Wednesday). In his first comments on the controversy over a brochure on ongoing and future tourism projects in the state, Adityanath told Times of India that the entire issue was the 'handiwork of vested interests' and there was no intent to denigrate the monument. "Taj Mahal is an integral part of our heritage and remains our priority for conservation and attracting tourists. The government has already allocated funds for its conservation", the CM said. The brochure highlighted a few new projects initiated recently. Just because Taj was not mentioned doesn't mean that it is being ignored, said Yogi. The booklet, "Uttar Pradesh Paryatan: Apar Sambhavnayen (Uttar Pradesh Tourism: Its High Potential)", was released recently by UP government was criticised for the absence of any reference to the Taj.
The Taj Mahal may not have found a mention in the UP government's recent booklet on key attractions in the state, But its popularity among tourists, especially those coming to India from foreign countries, has also increased. Data available with the ASI suggests that compared to 2016 (from January to August, 2016), 20.4% more foreigners visited the monument this year during the same months. While 4.26 lakhs foreign nationals came here in the first eight months of 2016, that number rose to 5.13 lakh for the same period this year (2017).
